Solemate
An untraditional construction makes these socks so special.
Use fingering (4-ply) sock yarn. The pattern is ideal for selfstriping yarn.
The pattern has four sizes and instructions on how to modify the pattern, for instance for high instep or wide calves.
Most parts of the sock is knit back and forth. Only small parts of the sock is knit in the round.
The sole of the sock is textured, thick and comfy. Two alternatives are given in the pattern: Eye of Partridge and Chinese Waves.
Choose size depending on foot width. Foot length and leg width are optional/adjustable.
Foot circumference:
X-Small: 16 cm / 6,25”
Small: 19 cm / 7,5”
Medium: 22 cm / 8,75”
Large: 25 cm / 10”
The instructions are written. The pattern also contains a sketch showing the different sections of the sock and in which order and direction they are knit.
At the later part of the pattern no exact stitch counts are given. This is because the stitch count may vary due to foot length knit and adjustments made for fit. The pattern gives instructions how to knit each part, but you might have to make smaller adjustments like “adding a half repeat” or “make a SSK instead of a SSSK when you run out of stitches”.
Techniques used:
- Judy’s Magic Cast On
- Yarn Over Short Row Heel
- Catching strands along the edge, on a circular needle (described in the pattern)
This a pattern for the experienced sock knitter who’s looking for a challenge!
Errata: Eye-of-Partridge pattern:
R9: then last stitch should be a SSP3togtbl instead of a SSP2togtbl.
When repeating R11-R14 start R11 with K1 instead of the SSSK. (This is corrected in the current version (v2).)
