About the Design
Softly Spoken is a versatile lightweight cardigan, the perfect layering piece for warmer weather. Elegantly simple, it can be dressed up or down to suit any occasion.
Softly Spoken uses fingering or sport weight yarn. Choose a linen or cotton blend for a drapey summer garment, or a bouncy rounded yarn for a warmer cardigan that’s perfect for in-between days.
Knit it slightly cropped as shown, or lengthen the body for more coverage. The pattern also includes guidance on how modify the neck so that the cardigan closes across the front.
Sizes
XS (S, M, L, XL // 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X), designed to fit with a 5-10cm opening at centre bust; use back width to determine which size to make.
Shown in Size S on Farah who is a UK size 8, and Sophie who is a UK size 12.
See schematic in photos.

Construction
Softly Spoken is worked seamlessly in a single piece from the top down. Beginning with a provisional cast-on, a foundation strip of hatch stitch edging is worked in both directions. This ensures that the edging is mirrored down the fronts of the cardigan.
Stitches are then picked up from this strip and the cardigan is worked seamlessly with raglan yoke increases and hatch stitch borders at the front edges and hem. Stitches are held on waste yarn for the sleeves while the body is completed and the yarn is then rejoined to knit the three-quarter-length sleeves, which are worked from the top down in the round.
