This soap sack was designed as a prettier, more contemporary version of the soap savers that I used when I was growing up. The pattern uses standard #10 crochet cotton, and the openwork mesh allows the soap sack to dry out quickly after using, keeping the soap inside from becoming a mushy mess.

Gauge is not critical for this pattern, as you are creating an openwork mesh that will expand and contract. Use the hook size that you are comfortable with for crochet thread. I used US #6 steel hook, which is equivalent to 1.8 mm.

Only a small amount of crochet cotton is needed for this project - approximately 50 yards (~10 grams). This is a good project for using up leftovers!
