This shawl was designed at a time where I needed some comfort knitting as I was going through a bit of a knitting slump. I’ve felt like for most of 2021 I’ve been battling with a sort of design block and have really struggled to move passed that feeling. However, the idea for this shawl had been with me for a while in the back of my head and since I had mostly figured out how it was going to look I thought it was a good first step towards trying to move passed this block. It was exactly what I needed and it was a joy to work on.

Please note while this shawl was knit using 2 strands of sport weight yarn held double you can literally knit this shawl with any yarn weight (you will only have to adjust needle sizes accordingly) as it is more of a recipe than a strict pattern. There are detailed instructions for all of this in the pattern as well as some additional clarifying notes below which you can review before purchasing.

For this shawl you will be holding your yarn double stranded throughout. It is necessary to have access to scales to weigh your yarn during the project, and it is suggested to wind your yarns into a Cake or a centre-pull ball as you will be using both ends of the yarn (however, if you are using two skeins of each colour then this is less of an issue).

What you will need:

• Yarn – 600gm Sport Weight Yarn (2x100gm in each of three colours)- Yarn used in sample is Lavender Lune Yarn Co Sport Weight – 80% Superwash Merino / 20% Nylon, in the Colours Foxy (Colour A), Ghost Horse (Colour B) and Sage (Colour C), 300m/328yd per 100gm

• Needles – 5mm (US8) on a Long Cable to accommodate all the stitches (I suggest 32”/80cm or 40”/100cm length)

• Notions – 4 Stitch Markers, Cable Needle (this is optional as the cables can be worked without a cable needle), Scales (for weighing your yarn as you go)

• Gauge – Approx 18 sts / 4 inches in garter stitch after gentle blocking (although gauge is really not too important with this shawl as long as you are liking the fabric you are getting).

• Other modification ideas and things to note:

• This design is fairly flexible in that you can adjust what yarn weights you use to knit it in. The pattern is written for sport weight but you can easily substitute fingering weight yarn and go down a needle size to a 4.5mm (Size 7) needle and follow the same percentages etc.

• You can also size up your yarn weight and completely avoid the marling aspect and use a DK or worsted weight yarn and a different colour for each section knitting until you run out before moving onto the next section.

• Following on from the previous point, this makes the shawl a great option for using up Handspun yarns as you do not have to hit certain stitch counts before moving onto another section, each section can be knit for as long as you wish.
