DESIGN NOTES:

Since childhood I’ve been a big fan of fairy tales and fables. Since having children of my own, I’ve begun seeking out some of the same tales that enchanted me as a small person and have discovered some new ones. One of my current favorites from a collection I bought my oldest is the story of Snow White and Rose Red. Its the tale of two clever sisters who encounter a foul tempered dwarf with claims of untold riches. They make friends with a bear with a sad story to share and in the end discover that he is more than he seems.

TECHNIQUE NOTES: These socks are stranded color work with a unique two color cast on and a side winding two color cable. These features might seem tricky at first, but most intermediate knitters (and adventurous beginners)should have no problems following the instructions for a very dramatic sock. The right sock and left sock are mirrored as far aa color. Charts are provided for both.

YARN:
Cascade Heritage Sock (Fingering Weight, 4 ply 75% Superwash Merino, 25% Nylon) 1 skein each in colors:
5607 Red
5618 Snow

NEEDLES:
1 set US size 1 (2.25mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.

GAUGE:
12 rows and 9.75sts =1” in the stranded colorwork (when relaxed).
10-11 rows and 10-11sts =1” in the 2x2 rib in the round (when relaxed).

SIZING NOTES: Due to the nature of the twisted elements of this sock, and the colorwork, this sock not only runs a bit small, but also has almost no give. Expect to work the pattern at least 1 size larger than you usually do. You may also want to consider trying to work it up in either a heavy fingering or sportweight yarn.

CUFF CIRCUMFERENCE
{6.5, 7, 7.75, 8.5}” relaxed and
{11, 12, 13, 14}” stretched.

LEG and FOOT CIRCUMFERENCE
{6, 6.5, 7.25, 7.75}” relaxed and
{8, 9, 10, 11}” stretched.

LENGTH:
Cuff: 1.25”
Leg: (before heel, with cuff) 6.25”
