Snow in Kergord Mittens
by Outi Kater
Kergord Woods, originally planted in the 1910s, is one of the very few woodlands in Shetland. Two well-known Shetland stitch patterns are reproduced in Snow in Kergord Mittens, one of them depicting spruce trees that can be found in this woodland.
The mittens have thumb gussets and the braiding at the cuffs connects this design to Shetland’s neighbouring Nordic knitting traditions.
The pattern includes two sizes, women’s and men’s, and two colourways.
The mittens are knitted in the round, starting with a Latvian braid.
