Smolder: to burn slowly without flame, usually emitting smoke; to have strong suppressed feelings.

I love the depth a single word can have, the layers, the multiple meanings. I think Smolder works perfectly to describe the many layers in this seemingly simple garment. On the surface it is a simple poncho. But is it? The moody colours in the hand dyed yarn and the chevron stitch are reminiscent of a smouldering fire. Or perhaps it gives someone smoldering thoughts about you…?

Find out what Smolder means to you.

Smolder is crocheted in one piece and then seamed
along the shoulder. The stitches used are sc, hdc, dc. There is a photo tutorial included for the special decrease stitch.

Level: Intermediate

Gauge: 20 dc = 4” using a 3.5mm hook (or whatever hook size you need to achieve gauge)

The fit is loose and comfortable, and the neck opening is customized to fit you.

Size 1 will fit anyone from size Small to Large/XL. Size 2 will fit anyone from size XL to 4XL. Please refer to schematics for specific measurements.

Yardage: Size 1: 1200 yd / 1100m; Size 2: 1600 yd / 1460m

Yarn: any fingering weight yarn will work for this project.

In the multi coloured sample, I used The Loving Path Yarns High Twist Sock in colour Simon for the main body and a mini set in the colourway Epiphany for the ends. Each mini skein was divided in half and used at either end. I used approximately 1.3 skeins of the main colour in the body of the poncho. This sample is Size 1.

For the teal sample I used Akara Yarns Yak Sock in the colour Tubig. I used 4 skeins for the Size 2 poncho.
