Most of the self-striping yarns that I have hiding in my stash were dyed to be socks. They make narrow little stripes, and they are spectacular for small projects like mittens and, well, socks. That’s wonderful, but I recently had a chat with my yarn stash, and we decided that sometimes sock yarn just doesn’t want to be socks. This yarn in particular wanted to be a cowl, so I set about making its dreams come true. The Slippery Cowl was designed to keep the rows short so that you can use narrow stripes that were meant for socks on your neck. Knit in three seamless panels, this cowl uses vertical and horizontal stripes in combination with slipped stitches to draw lines that slip and slide in all directions. Go have a chat with your stash. I bet there’s a skein in there that wants to be a cowl.
