Skyggen
Decades ago, when my Norwegian grandfather was travelling Greece with my parents, he declared that it was too warm for walking in the streets, he would instead be “jumping from shade to shade” (hoppe fra skyggen til skyggen). It has become a family code for “it’s hot outside”.
The holes and lines of this pattern remind me of a tree-lined street in summer, where shadow and sunlight alternate, and where one could also jump from shadowy spot to shadowy spot like grandpa.
Knit in a light yarn, the shawl is perfect for the early sunny months, when one jumps from sunny spot to sunny spot.
The pattern is written out and can be knit in any yarn weight. I recommend a light yarn for a summery shawl, e.g. Rowan Creative Linen.
