Designed as part of a series to increase your knitting skills, this pattern uses basic lace techniques and beads. Requiring just 50g of yarn, you can use leftovers or a precious single ball of yarn. The pattern can also be resized, or worked without beads – play with the techniques to make it yours!

Yarn: 50 g DK weight yarn, approximately 180 m per 100 g.
Shown in: World of Wool Distilled in “Cooperage”; DK; Shetland & Tweed; 90 m / 98 yds per 50 g.

Needles: 4.5 mm / US 8 for working in the round on a medium circumference, 40 cm / 16” circular suggested.

Notions: Tapestry needle; crochet hook (for beading, 1.5 mm suggested); 30 beads to suit yarn, sample uses 32/0 beads in brushed mixed copper.

Skills: Cast on, garter stitch in the round, lace, adding beads, cast off, weaving in ends, blocking.

Gauge: 18.5 stitches and 27 rows over 10 cm / 4” in lace pattern after firm blocking. Gauge is not critical for this project, but different gauges will affect the finished size and yarn required.

Sizing: The cowl has a circumference of 56 cm / 22 ½” and a depth of 13 cm / 5 ¼”.
