Six Ways Knit Face Scrubbies
Six variations on a knitted face scrubby, with a variety of easy to intermediate patterns for texture and ‘scrubability’.
An easy, stash-busting knit, creating eco-friendly, reusable scrubbies with optional strap across the back. Worsted yarn held double knit on smallish needles replicates the thick texture normally achieved by crocheting (great for those who can’t crochet!).
Knit Mum a sustainable Mother’s Day gift, or if she’s a knitter then gift her the pattern!
Yarn: about 7g per scrubby (+ 2g for optional strap) of any worsted, Aran or DK held double – use cotton, linen or hemp, preferably organic or recycled (I used Paintbox Yarns Recycled Cotton Worsted)
Gauge: not important but around 17 st / 16 rows to 4” in garter stitch (with yarn held double)
Needles: US 7 / UK 7 / 4.5 mm
Patterns A-D: straight needles (or use your circulars/dpns)
Patterns E-F: circular for magic loop (at least 22” / 55cm) or double-pointed needles (instructions for magic loop only)
Finished dimensions:
2.5” to 2.75” / 6.5 to 7cm across
Time required: 15 to 40 minutes per scrubby (plus around 10 minutes for a strap)
Difficulty: 4 easy patterns + 2 intermediate (knitting a small circumference in the round)
Number of pages: 4
Language: English only
ECO CREDENTIALS: These scrubbies are designed to be knitted in a natural yarn such as cotton, linen or hemp, materials that will eventually biodegrade and give back to the earth. They are also a replacement for single-use pads.
You can make them even more planet-friendly by using cotton that is either organic (using less water and chemicals) or recycled (using up waste)!
