Sisyphean Trial
Elena Bulgakov struggled after her husband’s death to get his works published. She confided in a friend that it was a sisyphean trial. She preserved the papers, made collections, and submitted them for approval only to have them banned again and again under Stalin.
Bulgakov was a broken man, he went from fame in brilliance to acting in the works of others in order to not starve. Elena faithfully gave up everything for him, supported him, and when the Soviet regime tried to diminish Bulgakov, she reminded him that he was the Master. His Margarita keeping Bulgakov’s memory alive after his death.
This shawl resembles the dried up seedheads from once blooming flowers.
