This 2-row knitting pattern is said to come from Arabic knitting techniques. British and American authors called it “Tunisian”. Single Tunisian makes a thicker, less-stretchy fabric than stockinette stitch. I used one-size-larger needles than normal for this denser stitch but use whatever feels right for you. I also added 1 selvage stitch at the end of row 1 to better control the last yarn over.

Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, YO, SSK and bind off.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

48 yards of Knit Picks’ Wool of the Andes yarn will make 10 inches of a 20-stitch-wide (3.5” wide) strip at gauge.
