Simply Circles Skater Skirt
This amazingly swirly skirt has a hidden secret that means that the same skirt can fit a variety of people of many different ages and sizes. Make it for yourself but lend it to your mother, daughter, sister, friend … and you can even wear it as a poncho.
The skirt is one element of an outfit that was originally designed, and short-listed, for the International Mohair Competition 19971. The patterns have been available, on our website, for a long time but are new to Ravelry. The other two parts of the outfit are Simply Circles Cape and Simply Circles Hat. They are available as separate patterns and in an ebook.
As you can see from the photos the skirt lies completely flat when spread out so is very full when worn. You can make it in any yarn but very thick yarns are not recommended. It is best in something that drapes well. The green skirt shown was made in a mohair and silk mixture; the darker skirt was made in chenille.
It is not possible to say how much yarn will be needed as the yarn, size and length are all personal choice. There is information about how to assess the amount based on making a tension square in your chosen yarn.
The ebook is mainly a book about the mathematics of knitting centre-out circles. Amongst other things, it explains how to make a circle that will lie completely flat whatever stitch, yarn and needles you decide to use. It includes all three patterns.

If you have already bought either the skirt or cape pattern you can buy the ebook for half of its normal price.

In the previous year I was awarded second place in the competition with a child’s outfit. ↩
