Simple Shawl
The Simple Shawl features an easy-to-memorize pattern that lends itself to a wide variety of yarn and needle combinations. The size can easily be adjusted—simply continue knitting the two row pattern until the shawl is the desired size. Note, however, that the row gauge is very compressed, with almost 3 times as many rows per inch as stitches per inch. Therefore the shawl becomes wider much faster than it becomes deeper.
Yarn and needles are flexible for this project.
I used a fingering weight yarn and a US #5 needle for the green version, resulting in a lightweight fabric that works great as a scarf.
The worsted weight sample (grey, knit on a US #8 needle) resulted in a denser fabric, and a warm and cozy shawl. Thus the below materials are by no means mandatory, but are intended as suggestions only.
Finished gauge depends on yarn and needles used and on how aggressively the shawl is blocked.
