Simple Chunky Hat
I designed this hat for my Learn To Knit class, so it’s perfect for beginners looking for a straightforward, satisfying project. Like all my patterns, it’s simple and easy to follow – ideal for building confidence. It’s also great for more experienced knitters as a quick, relaxing knit between larger projects. One knitter even told me she finished it in an evening!
CONSTRUCTION
Knitted flat from the bottom up in one piece with one seam.
TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, decreasing. Joining one seam. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces: mattress stitch.
YARN
One 100g hank of WYS Re:Treat Twist
100% British Bluefaced Kerry Hill wool 140m/153yds per 100g
SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
6mm.
GAUGE (tension)
14 stitches and 28 rows to 10cm square over garter stitch. I obtained this gauge with 6mm needles.
It is important to obtain gauge so do swatch and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
To fit adult head. Due to the nature of the rib pattern and individual gauges the finished circumference can vary from 48cm to 54cm. If the knitter gets the gauge as above, the finished circumference will be approx. 50cm.
