Silk Graffiti : A dazzling parallelogram shawl, knit completely on the bias, with repetitive stripes of ripple two-color brioche, garter stitch and stockinette, creating eye-catching angles of waves, color and texture.
Yarn Notes:
Grab 3 skeins of fingering weight yarn in 3 different tones. For the best outcome, use light, medium, and dark. Gradients or fades work very well! If substituting yarns, please note the yardage amounts. I highly recommend using yarns with light to no speckles for the pattern to really shine. Go for a nice color fade, or choose high contrast colors for some amazing pops! You will get to see every brioche combo with this one!
Last photo shows my yarn in skein form.
Yarn Amounts:
Please note that I did have a bit left over from my skeins, but I have added 10% extra to account for differences in gauge and tension. If you are afraid of running out of yarn, please consider going down a needle size.
This pattern is easy to modify by adding or omitting pattern repeats to accommodate more or less yarn.
This pattern has both written instructions and a chart for the Brioche Ripple. I recommend following the chart for the best knitting experience.
Skill Level:
Intermediate - Advanced. I highly recommend having previous brioche knitting experience before making this shawl.
Techniques Used:
knit, purl, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), sl1yo, brioche increases and decreases, Twisted German Cast On, Elastic Bind Off, side to side shawl on the bias construction

Construction Notes:
This shawl idea was inspired by one of my most popular shawl patterns, Current Mood. I love the idea of two-color brioche being broken up with simple stitch patterns, but creating waves in the fabric made by the increases and decreases. Except for this shawl, I switched it! The stitch pattern is now within the two-color brioche, mimicking the waves and ripples created by the lace in Current Mood.
These 3 colors were handpicked by myself and Shobha from Serendipitous Wool, and I immediately knew they would be perfect for this new design. Once you cast on your stitches, the stitch count will remain the same for the entire shawl. You will increase at the right edge and decrease the same amount of stitches at the left edge, which creates a lovely diagonal to the stripes. Each section will be the same: one solid stripe of garter and stockinette, two Brioche Ripple stripes with stripes of garter and stockinette in between. You will change your colors in each section, which allows you to see every combination of the 3 different colors.
I love parallelogram shawls and this one is very long, making it so easy to wear! Drape it over your arms or shoulders for a more formal look. You can also wrap it around your neck a few times for extra warmth!
