Short-Row Cowls
As this pattern is linked to the article on colorwork using short rows, I wanted patterns that used short rows to create the fabric pattern as opposed to shaping the garment. I wanted to stress using more than one short-row method in the hopes of freeing the knitter to experiment with what works best in a given situation.
Each cowl uses color in a different way to visualize how short rows can be used for colorwork. Cowl 1 uses a variegated yarn for the color and a solid yarn to frame the color to look like windows of stained glass. Cowl 2 uses all solid colors and demonstrates using bold and high contrast colors, although a variegated and a solid would also look great. Finally, Cowl 3 uses colored short rows to accent and spice up a simple stockinette pattern.
