Remember those dazzling ornaments brought down from the attic to decorate Grandma & Grandpa’s tree? They were the ones with tarnished mirror-like surfaces painted Christmas wonderland colors like pink and aqua, red, green, brown and gold. They were formed into fantastical pointy shapes with crinkly, indented middles that caught the light. Those were the Shiny Brites, my favorite ornaments during my childhood Christmases and the inspiration for these whimsical socks.

Simple two-color stranded colorwork combines with homey stripes to create a 1950’s vibe complete with a retro color way and patchy toe and heel. These are easy socks worked from the top down that feature a short row heel and wedge toe.

This is a great stash-busting project, great for using up those odd lengths of sock solids and tonals. The Shiny Brite socks are also a great way to use up mini-skeins from your Advent calendar! Choose five of your favorites and cast on!

NEEDLES
US 1 2.25 mm for cuff, feet and heels
and US 1 2.50 mm for stranded sections:
40” circular needle for Magic Loop or set
of five double-pointed needles.

NOTIONS
Tapestry needle; stitch markers; removable
stitch markers.

GAUGE
36 sts and 48 rows = 4” 10 cm in Stockinette
Stitch.
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain
the correct gauge.
