Shield Pattern, surrounded with Open Work
by Cornelia Mee
This pattern is
available for free.
Sample was worked on 4 mm needles, using Rowan Wool Cotton, to give 14sts/10cm after blocking.
This pattern has been test knit and rewritten into modern knitting language. The pattern includes the original version the the modernised version.
This is a vintage pattern from Cornelia Mee’s 1846 book, Exercises in Knitting. The entire book can be viewed on the Gutenberg.org website. The book is a project being recorded and knitted by volunteers at the Librivox site.
Cornelia provides no gauge, yardage, or finishing instructions. Typical of Victorian patterns, it is assumed that the knitter will figure things out, including errata.
