Shetlandesque Stole
This pattern is
available from interweave.com
for $7.99.
Knit a stole in classic Shetland style: work the central rectangle in stockinette, then pick up and knit an edging with narrow cables instead of lace. A soft hand-dyed yarn picks up all the colors of weathered stone, so the wrap resembles an Iron Age broch, a type of stone tower found all over Scotland and the Northern Isles.
Difficulty Easy
Finished Size 10” wide and 76” long.
Yarn Space Cadet Cressida (100% superwash merino wool): nine stones, 3 skeins.
Needles Size 10 (6 mm): 40” circular. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions Cable needle; tapestry needle.
Gauge 16 sts and 25 rows = 4” in St st.
Notes This shawl is worked back and forth in rows.
