We have several pines on our property that have branches that droop downwards, providing shelter for small animals and ground birds from predators and bad weather.
Thus, the concept of “Sheltering Pines”, a representation of the downward drooping boughs using simple lace stitches above a soft and warm brim of moss stitch. The crown continues the concept with an arching lace decrease that evokes the sheltering branches.
This is a quick and easy knit that will hold your interest. And since it only uses about 140 yards (128 meters) of a light worsted weight yarn, it’s a great stash buster.
The hat is sized for Small, Medium, and Large, but can also be further adjusted by going up or down a needle size.
