Sharf is a fun, quirky shawl/scarf (hence SHARF!) that knits up in no time flat! You can use everything from Super Bulky to Chunky to Worsted held double to Fingering held quadruple!

A pattern designed out of necessity for speed and stash busting, Sharf is sure to be the perfect last minute gift that will make both your wardrobe bigger and your stash smaller!


Size: 60-64 inches along the bottom edge X 6-8 inches at the widest point of the sharf. Shawl size may vary, depending on individual knitter’s gauge, yarns used, and blocking preferences.


Recommended yarn: One strand of Super Bulky or Chunky yarn, Two strands of Worsted/DK weight held together (or one strand of Worsted/DK and two strands of Fingering all held together), or 4 strands of Fingering weight held together.


Samples Used:

  • Sample A (Yellow - Super Bulky): 2 skeins of Hedgehog Fibres Chubby (100% Merino; 55 yd/50 m) in “Fools Gold”
  • Sample B (Not pictured – Chunky): 2 skeins of Hedgehog Fibres Chunky Singles (80% Merino/20% Nylon; 77 yd/70 m) in “Purple Reign”
  • Sample C (Green – Worsted Held Double): 1 skein of Hedgehog Fibres Merino Singles (100% Merino; 241 yd/220 m) in “Swamp”
  • Sample D (Blue and Grey – DK Held Double): 2 skeins (one of each color; enough for 2 shawls!) of Hedgehog Fibres Merino DK (100% Merino; 219 yd/200 m) in “Monet” and “Crystal”
  • Sample E (Pinks – Fingering held quadruple): Hedgehog Fibres Sock (90% Merino/10% Nylon; 437 yd/400 m) in “Merlot” and “Flamingo” (one strand of Flamingo and two strands of Merlot). Also used Hedgehog Fibres Kidsilk Lace (70% Mohair/30% Silk; 459 yd/420 m) in “Whisper” (one strand)

Yardage:

  • Super Bulky and Chunky: 110 yd / 101 m
  • Worsted: 110-120 yd/101-110 m per strand; 220-240 yd/202-220 m in total.
  • Fingering: 110-120 yd/101-110 m per strand; 880-960 yd/404-480 m in total.

Needles: One set of US size 15/10 mm needles.


Gauge: 2-3 sts to the inch on US size 15/10 mm needles in garter stitch.


Notions: Scissors and tapestry needle.


Techniques used in this pattern: SLPYO (German) Short Rows, Simple Yarn Overs, knit stitches, simple increases and decreases.
