The Shadows balaclava is a ribbed and patterned hood worked top down. It has ha plaid pattern at the sides made up by alternating between adding and removing a lace yarn, kind of like stranded knitting. It has a snug fit and a shorter ribbing at the neck which makes it easy to wear another hood or a scarf over it. The Shadows balaclava comes in two sizes.

YARN Yarn 1: BC Loch Lomond (150 m ≈ 164 yd/50 g)
Yarn 2: Kaos Yarn Brushed Alpaca (225 m ≈ 246 yd/25 g)
If you want the plaid pattern to be prominent choose the colour of yarn 2 with as much contrast to the colour of yarn 1 as possible. Either by having it a lot darker/lighter, or by choosing a contrasting colour.

GAUGE 19 sts x 28 rnds = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4 in. on 4 mm (US 6) needle (or the size you need to get gauge) in stockinette worked flat with yarn 1 after blocking.
