The Semi-Precious Shawl was first released in 2017 with the Madeline Tosh shawl club subscription from Jimmy Beans Wool. The yarn is no longer available, but this pattern will work very well with fingering weight leftovers or mini skeins. Each section only uses 2 colors at a time, and only one color per row. This makes it a relaxing knit that is easy to pick up and put down! There is also a lot of flexibility to add in stripes and use up every last inch of the yarn.
The original version uses 12 different colors, but I always wanted to create a 2 color version of the shawl - mostly so there wouldn’t be so many ends to weave in! The result is a shawl that is slightly asymmetrical and just big enough to for light neck and shoulder coverage.
This new version uses just 300 yards/50g of 2 different colors (600 yards total), and only one color per row. This makes it a relaxing knit that is easy to pick up and put down! There is also a lot of flexibility to add in eyelet stripes at the end and use up every last inch of the yarn.
I chose a luxurious cashmere linen blend yarn that I have been hoarding for years. It is the perfect blend of warmth and airiness for fall or spring. However, any light fingering-fingering weight yarn will work!

Sample 1: This multi-color shawl uses approximately 70 yards each of 12 colors of fingering weight yarn and is shown in Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light. The original colors were part of the 2017 shawl club subscription at Jimmy Beans Wool. They are no longer available, however this shawl is perfect for using up leftovers and minis!
