The Showy Rib
The Showy Rib is based on the Showy Decrease which has been used in many of our patterns to add depth and texture to the right side of stockinette. Now we’re sharing how the Showy Decrease can be paired with purl stitches to add incredible height to your ribs. Showy Ribs are twice as thick as a standard rib.
Two Free Patterns
This is the 2nd free scarf pattern we are publishing to support the announcement of the Showy Rib. The first one, the Telluride Canyon Scarf, is a bit simpler to knit because the raised rib is knit in just one direction. This scarf uses a Showy K2tog and P2tog to add height in both directions. In a bulky weight yarn, the scarf is over 1” thick.
The patterns and blog posts work together to introduce this new technique in a way that makes it accessible to newer knitters and with enough detail that more experienced knitters or designers can play with the idea in other patterns.
Gauge and Size
Information for the sample scarves has been provided but you have complete flexibility on both gauge and size. This pattern would also make a wonderfully squishy baby blanket. Yarn recommendations are included in the blog post listed below.
