About this Pattern
Who doesn’t love to hear the sound of waves breaking against the shore? There’s something about being close to the waters edge and hearing the soothing sound of wave after wave, crashing on the beach before retreating back into the sea.
The Seaspray shawl takes its cue from those gentle, repetitive waves, which are echoed in the simple lace stitch pattern. Starting at the tip of the shawl, the four-row lace quickly takes hold and becomes easy to memorise as you work your way through the body of the shawl.
Stitch after stitch the shawl grows, each wave mirroring the last and leaving your stitches easy to read and repeat as you progress.
The sample uses just one skein of 4ply / sock yarn and was knitted in a smooth, solid colour but a semi-tonal or a lightly variegated yarn would work just as nicely.
If you prefer your shawls on the larger size, you can easily continue with the pattern to use 2 or even 3 skeins.
The end result is a light, lacy shawl that will be ‘shore’ to send lots of compliments your way!
The pattern has been tech edited and test knitted prior to publication.

Pattern Testimonials
“A beautiful lace pattern shawl that looks more complicated than it actually is to knit. This was a very relaxing knit thanks to the detailed pattern, as is standard in Jem’s patterns, with each row written out in full and an extremely helpful row checker” – Fiona
“The Seaspray Shawl was a pleasure to knit. The pattern is well written. The design blooms beautifully when blocked. This item will be another favorite and often worn” – Lila
“I have a bit of an obsession going with lace shawls and scarves. I like the challenge and I love the results. Jem’s patterns are my absolute favorite because her instructions are so clear and the handy stitch count row by row makes it easy to find an error before you are too far along. This one is beautiful, and I am especially pleased with the color of yarn I picked to use. The yarn has a mix of blues and greens and reminds me of the Caribbean Ocean. When knit up in this beautiful pattern, it resembles the scales on a mermaid’s tail. It looks even better when blocked” – Karen R
“Wear it with jeans, a dress or as a scarf under a jacket-the Seaspray Shawl does it all!” – Karen F
“Lovely lacy shawl, not too difficult to follow once you get started and the pattern is set. Really helpful stitch count checklist so if you lose track of your rows its easy to find your row number” – Mel
“This is a delicate open lacey shawl, representing the description given by the designer. A pattern that is quick off the needles and easy to follow “ - Lisa*
