A cover-up for the beach or an evening out, this poncho combines the best of knit and crochet in one garment. Two rectangles are knit in a simple, garter stitch lace pattern and then stitched together to form the poncho. A single crochet border is added around the neckline and a lacy crochet fringe is worked around the border of the shawl.

Skills Needed
Knit, yarn over, single and double decreases, casting on, binding off, single crochet, crochet chaining, crochet slip stitch.

Finished Measurements
Approximately 18”/46cm from neckline to arm edge and 24”/61cm long from neckline to front point, including fringe border

This pattern was designed especially for a crocheted trim. However, if you do not crochet, you can substitute a knitted-on border of your choice. For a wide range of border options, I recommend the books Knitting on the Edge and Knitting Over the Edge, both by Nicky Epstein. In addition to providing a multitude of border patterns, these books give guidance on substituting borders.
