It seems like I’m always dealing with scraps from my sock knitting. I love doing colorwork and I obsessively hoard every leftover yarn ball, big or small (including the sock yarn from my mother, who also loved knitting socks, when she passed) so it’s really kind of inevitable. That’s OK—I view it as a fun challenge to use up all of those scraps.

So here’s a fun pattern that features a textural Dip Stitch on the leg that is perfect for making the most of variegated scraps. I’ve added 2 color stripes on the foot due to my limited yarn amounts but you can knit the foot all in one color or even more than 2 colors if you wish. Feel free to also use more colors for the cuffs and toes—get wild!

The pattern is given in both charted and written formats. Three sizes are offered, the pictured sock was knit in the large size which fit a women’s US size 10. These socks are knit cuff down with a traditional heel flap and side gussets. Note that the Dip ST pattern has a lot of lateral stretch to it so don’t be alarmed at the ST count for the leg. The toe is a modified star toe—so no need for Kitchener stitch at the end.

Yarn recommendations: I recommend solid colors for yarns A and B and a variegated yarn for yarn C. Yarns B and C should have a decent amount of contrast.
