Pattern Description from Faith, Hope, Love, Knitting: “The squares that my Girl Scout students knitted for their beanbags weren’t felted. I didn’t know what yarns they’d be bringing along, so I had them line their knitted bags with a little pouch made from discarded pantyhose so that the filling wouldn’t leak out through the knitted stitches. For this project, though, I chose a wool-blend yarn that would felt, not only because felting eliminates uneven stitching and mistakes (which beginners find discouraging) but also because you can fill the beanbags with beads or beans or popcorn without worrying about lining them. I also like that this yarn is variegated (it changes colors), which inspires young girls (or any new knitters) to keep knitting till they get to the next color, and then the next, and so on.”

Materials:

• Patons SWS (70% wool, 30% soy; 10 yd/100m per 80g skein), one skein each color #70418, #70310, #70580
• US #10½ (6.5mm) knitting needles, store-bought or homemade
• Sewing thread and needle
• Poly-fil™ beads or popcorn
• Tapestry needle

Gauge: 12 sts and16 rows = 4 inch in Stockinette st (before felting)

Notes: Gauge is not important as the finished piece wil be felted (shrunk). It is the perfect beginner project, as the felting will hid errors.
