This garment is made to wrap around the body (with zero or negative ease) and has a lot of stretch to the fabric.

Any DK weight yarn could be used.

Errata
The original printing of the book did not include the chart or instructions for the pattern stitch. Worked side-to-side, the instructions are as follows:

Rows 1-7: Knit (garter stitch)
Rows 8 (WS): Purl
