Sand Layers
Sand Layers is a lovely cosy shawl to wrap yourself up in.
The fun to work slip stitch/garter pattern creates a modern accessory that you will enjoy both making and wearing.
Choose your two favourite colours and mix them in this textured, squishy garter shawl.
The shawl knits up quickly and the alternating colour-bands/sections keep your interest while being easy and fun to knit.
It is worked top-down in one piece from the centre out as a crescent shaped shawl with a curved top edge.
The pattern contains written as well as charted instructions.
YARN:
Designed for two skeins of fingering weight yarn in contrasting colours. Allow approx. 800yds/730m total to get the size of the sample.
Yarn used for sample:
Madelinetosh tosh merino light (fingering weight, 100g = 420yds/380m), 1 skein each in colourway Neon Peach and Astrid Grey on 3.75+4 mm/US 5+6 needles
SIZE:
length along top edge: approx. 224cm/88“
depth: approx. 40cm/15.75“
GAUGE:
Is not critical for this project but differences will affect yardage requirements and the finished size.
Gauge on sample: 21 sts x 44 rows = 10x10cm/4x4“ in garter stitch on smaller needle after blocking
I hope you’ll enjoy the pattern :)
I had the pleasure to work with these fabulous testers:
xstitch, knittingnoodler, gypsythedog, knittingaries, julka, selene1985, knitgrl, cmaga, parisgirl-81, 15FiberFrenzy
Thanks so much for all your helpful feedback and beautiful knits ♡
Nov. 2015:
The original version was made with a slip stitch edging and has a curved top edge with little curly tips. I have now also written up instructions for a garter edge version for knitters who prefer that type of edge. This version requires slightly less yardage and the top edge is less curved with straighter tips. I’ve added it to the pattern now – you’ll find both versions in the same pdf.
You can see all the test projects made from this version here.
Thanks so much for doing the additional testing: wireknitter, sophjacksam, 3catos, steffH82, michamade, knitaddicted
