This scarf is designed specifically with the beginner in mind.

It uses only knit and purl stitches to build the most common stitch patterns every new knitter should have in their toolkit. The scarf starts with garter stitch, where every row is knit, and builds from there, adding one new textured pattern at a time so you are always learning something while making something you will actually want to wear.
By the end, you will have a soft, textured scarf about 60 inches long and a real working familiarity with knit and purl combinations.

Skill level: Beginner

Techniques: worked flat, knit and purl stitch patterns, garter stitch

I taught this very scarf to adult students in the beginner knitting classes I led through my local Parks and Recreation department.

As an early childhood educator, I know that learning sticks best when each new skill is introduced in gentle steps, and that is exactly how this scarf is built.
