From 100 Afghan Squares to Knit:

I designed this afghan especially for knitters who want to experiment with a range of textured stitches instead of color. Consequently there are many opportunities to try techniques such as cabling, bobbles and seed (moss) stitch. There is an underlying theme of the beach in this afghan. For example, cables imitate shell patterns and ropes; bobbles suggest pebbles and stones, and seed (moss) stitch patterns bring to mind sand swirls along the water’s edge. A new version of basketweave stitch is used to suggest sea walls. Variations could be introduced by substituting a shade of yarn of your own choosing or by using a mixture of colors to give more of a patchwork effect. The patterning on Sampler is rich in texture, but could be lightened by the introduction of plain stockinette (stocking) stitch squares, interspersed between the textured squares. In fact, this afghan provides the adventurous knitter with many opportunities to experiment.
