Saltmeadow
Cool, flowing linen contrasts with the sheen of merino/silk in this generous warm-weather wrap. The slight bias of Saltmeadow takes full advantage of linen’s drape while textured ridges show off its crispness. To make Saltmeadow, you will need to know how to increase, decrease, and slip stitches. The pattern instructions are written only, and include illustrations for working the stitch used in the texture ridges.
Model is 5 ft 6 in/168cm tall.
Yarn:
Shibui Knits Reed (100% linen; 246 yds/225m per 1.76 oz/50g); Fog: 7 skeins (MC)
Shibui Knits Silk Lunar (60% extra fine merino, 40% mulberry silk; 401 yds/365m per 1.76 oz/50g); Blueprint: 1 skein (CC)
Notions: temporary/locking stitch marker; yarn needle
About the yarn: Shibui Reed is a light fingering weight, 100% linen yarn with a chainette construction—essentially a very fine knitted tube—and a matte appearance. The high quality linen and the fineness of the chainette make Reed surprisingly soft and supple, especially for a linen yarn. Reed is a very unusual yarn; other linen yarns would also work, though the fabric would be a bit different. If you’re looking to use a different yarn for this project, look for a light fingering weight yarn with excellent drape and stitch definition that gives you a fabric you like at the pattern gauge. You will need about 1722 yds/1575m.
Shibui Lunar is a laceweight yarn made up of 3 plies of 60/40 merino/silk. The high percentage of mulberry silk in this yarn gives it a wonderful sheen and depth of colour. If you’re looking to substitute another yarn for Lunar, look for a lace to light fingering weight yarn that contrasts in both texture and colour with your main yarn. You will need about 100 yds/92m.
