After sharing the twisted stitch salmon motif from my Upstream sweater, many knitters asked for it on a scarf. Here it is.

Knit flat with clean edges, this scarf showcases the textural salmon motif in a way that is accessible. It offers the chance to explore the challenge of the motif without the commitment of a full sweater. Designed for worsted weight yarn, it can also be adapted to DK or fingering for a lighter fabric.

Thank you for the encouragement and enthusiasm around this motif. That interest is what brought this design to life.

Perfect for anyone who loves fish, texture, or an exploratory knit, this scarf carries the Upstream salmon motif into a versatile new format.

Finished Measurements:
8.25”/ 21 cm wide by 54 (59¾, 65½, 71¼)” / 137 (152, 166.5, 181) cm long.

Materials:
SweetGeorgia Superwash Worsted 100% superwash merino, 200y/ 182 m; 115g/ 4 oz., 522 (577, 633, 689) y/ 475 (525, 576, 627) m. Sample shown in Seagrass.

Tools:
US 7 (4.5mm) knitting needle, or size necessary to obtain gauge; US 6 (4mm) knitting needles or needle size one size smaller than gauge needle; cable needle; tapestry needle.

Gauge:
23 sts and 25 rows in 4”/10cm in pattern, using worsted weight and larger needles, blocked.

Want to use a different weight yarn? • Use DK weight yarn on US 6 (4mm) needles for a scarf that is approximately 7¾”/ \19.5 cm wide and 52–68”/ 132–173 cm long using ~420–585y /~384–535m, or

• Use fingering weight yarn on US 3 (3.25mm) needles for a scarf that is approximately 7¼”/18.5cm/ 20–21cm wide and 48–63”/122 –160 cm long using ~235–410y/~215–375m

• Repeat rows 139 – 174 more or fewer times than directed to adjust the length. Each repeat adds approximately 5¾”/14.5cm in worsted weight, 5½”/14cm in DK weight and 5¼”/13.5cm in fingering weight yarn.

• Gauge for these estimates is based on 24 sts and 26 rows in 4”/10cm for DK, and 26 sts and 28 rows in 4”/10cm for fingering. There is considerable flexibility in the finished dimensions. Width may vary comfortably, and length is fully adjustable through repeats. Ensure sufficient yarn is available for the desired measurements.
