Sword Art Online est un light novel écrit par Reki Kawahara.

Le 6 novembre 2022, plus de 10 000 joueurs se connectent au jeu pour la première fois et découvrent plus tard qu’ils sont incapables de se déconnecter. Ils sont ensuite informés par Akihiko Kayaba, le créateur de SAO, qu’ils doivent atteindre le 100e palier de la tour du jeu et vaincre le boss final pour être libres. Cependant, si leurs avatars meurent dans le jeu, leurs corps mourront aussi dans le monde réel. L’un de ces joueurs est Kazuto Kirigaya, connu alors sous le pseudonyme de « Kirito ». Ce dernier avait été choisi comme l’un des 1 000 bêta-testeurs de la bêta fermée. Comme il avait de l’expérience et la connaissance du jeu, il sentait qu’il pouvait finir le jeu facilement. En conséquence, il s’est mis à jouer en tant que joueur solo. Lors du premier jour, 213 personnes meurent car leurs proches tentent de débrancher le NerveGear malgré les avertissements qui apparaissent à l’écran. Et durant le premier mois, plus de 2 000 personnes meurent, soit en étant tuées dans le jeu, soit car le corps réel n’a pas été transporté à l’hôpital. En effet, le NerveGear intercepte toutes les sensations et la faim, la soif ou le sommeil d’un joueur dans le jeu n’a rien à voir avec l’état réel de son corps qui est plongé dans une sorte de coma.

Sakuya est le chef du clan des Sylphs. Kirito la sauve d’une attaque des Salamanders lors des négociations entre les Sylphs et les Cait Sith. Pour le remercier, elle organise une expédition avec Alicia, la chef du clan des Cait Siths, pour aider Kirito à atteindre le sommet du World Tree et sauver Asuna.

INSPIRATIONS

Sword Art Online is a Japanese light novel series written by Reki Kawahara.

In 2022, a virtual reality massively multiplayer online role-playing game (VRMMORPG) called Sword Art Online (SAO) is released. With the NerveGear, a helmet that stimulates the user’s five senses via their brain, players can experience and control their in-game characters with their minds. Both the game and the NerveGear were created by Akihiko Kayaba. On November 6, 10,000 players log into the SAO’s mainframe cyberspace for the first time, only to discover that they are unable to log out. Kayaba appears and tells the players that they must beat all 100 floors of Aincrad, a steel castle which is the setting of SAO, if they wish to be free. Those who suffer in-game deaths or forcibly remove the NerveGear out-of-game will suffer real-life deaths.

One of the players, named Kazuto “Kirito” Kirigaya, is one of 1,000 testers in the game’s previous closed beta. With the advantage of previous VR gaming experience and a drive to protect other beta testers from discrimination, he isolates himself from the greater groups and plays the game alone, bearing the mantle of “beater”, a portmanteau of “beta tester” and “cheater”. As the players progress through the game Kirito eventually befriends a young girl named Asuna Yuuki, forming a relationship with and later marrying her in-game. After the duo discover the identity of Kayaba’s secret ID, who was playing as the leader of the guild Asuna joined in, they confront and destroy him, freeing themselves and the other players from the game.

Sakuya s the leader of the Sylph. During a meeting with the Cait Sith, she is attacked by Salamanders led by General Eugene. At the same moment, Kirito flies in to challenge the general to a duel. After Kirito wins the battle, she attempts to seduce him to join the Slyphs, but Leafa smothers their attempt, saying that she is accompanying him to the World Tree. At the end of the arc, Lady Sakuya leads a combined force of Cait Sith and Sylph against the World Tree’s Guardians in an attempt to aid Kirito with the battle. After Kirito reached the top of the World Tree, she ordered her forces to pull back. Sakuya is later seen with Alicia and Sylph warriors and a few Cait Sith flying towards New Aincrad.
