It was a perfect summer. I was working as a bank teller and he was working in the field at a plumbing company; we were both happily earning money to pay for our sophomore year of college. Almost every night after work, we’d meet on the beach of the Saginaw Bay. Wading out to the old turquoise Sea Ray with a cooler of sandwiches, we’d pull in the anchor and troll the boat out from the shallows into the bay. We sat for hours fishing; trying to catch Perch or the elusive Walleye. The only thing we ever caught was a gorgeous sunset, where the golden sky surrounded us like a dome, and slowly became streaked with tentacles of orange or fiery red. The tops of the pillow clouds would rim with gold gilding, while their undersides warmed red as the sun’s gold disk slowly melted into dark waters.

The Saginaw Bay Cowl is a reversible two color stranded cowl, knit seamlessly with a single colored liner. The cowl’s circumference is provisionally CO and worked to the desired depth in stranded St. st. Staying in the round, a lining of a single color is seamlessly worked in St. st and finally is folded in and Kitchener stitch woven to the provisional CO. The pattern has two circumferences and one depth choice; both the circumference and depth are readily customizable.
