The Ruffle Fox Socks are a top-down design with a playful ruffled cuff and clever construction details knitters will appreciate. The ruffle is worked entirely with decreases—no picking up stitches or added shaping required—and the toe closes neatly without grafting. A printable gift label is included for easy gifting.

With a snug fit, simple texture, and just the right amount of flair, these socks are satisfying to knit and easy to wear.

The socks are knit top-down in fingering-weight yarn and a heel flap. There are four circumference options to fit a range of women’s shoe sizes. They’re worked on circular needles using the magic loop method.

YARN
For the 2 color sample, I used Sister Weekend Gramma Cher Sock (85% superwash merino, 15% donegal nep; 437 yd / 400 m per 100 g skein) in “Winterglow” as the main color, paired with Audrey Sock (80% superwash merino, 20% nylon; 400 yd / 366 m per 100 g skein) in “Hippie Dippy” for the contrast.

You’ll need approximately 254 (285, 308, 336) yd / 232 (261, 282, 307) m of the main color and 52 (58, 63, 69) yd / 47 (53, 58, 63) m of the contrast color. One skein of each is suffi cient for all sizes.

For the one-color sample, I used 1 Skein of Emma’s Yarn – Practically Perfect Sock (80% superwash merino, 20% nylon; 400 yd / 366 m per 100 g skein) in the colorway “Show Me the Honey” (yellow and orange speckles)

You’ll need 283 (318, 343, 375) yards / 260 (291, 314, 343) meters of fi ngering weight yarn. 1 skein is enough for all sizes.

GAUGE
32 sts and 48 rnds = 4ʺ / 10 cm in Stockinette Stitch, in the round, on gauge needles, after blocking.

NEEDLES*
You’ll need one size of circular needles in two lengths. First, knit a gauge swatch to determine the size needle that you need for the sock. For the sample, I used:
US 1 / 2.25 mm

  • One 32–40” (80–100 cm) circular needle for Magic Loop knitting
  • One 16ʺ / 40 cm circular needle for working the heel Always choose the needle size that you need in order to obtain the pattern’s gauge.
