Close to the place where my family comes from, in the deep heart of Lamone forest, there is a magic place called Rosa Crepante. The origin of the name is uncertain: Rosa Crepante (dying rose in local dialect) could refer to the crater shape of the hill, similar to a fully open rose, but it could also be related to the common local toponymy that often called places with the name of their owners (in this case: Ro’ Sacripante, meaning the Sacripante’s hill).
In Rosa Crepante the dark volcanic rocks creates a crater, and are wrapped in a dense vegetation resulting in a wonderful mix of colors and shapes.

Rosa Crepante shawl is a tribute to this place and to the region where my roots are, region full of history and myths.
It is a triangular sideways shawl worked from the right tip to the left bottom edge. The garter st is mixed with two sections worked in slip st pattern and mosaic.

The wonderful yarn used in the sample, Malabrigo Sock in semisolid colors, enhances the simple elegance and the unique texture of this shawl.

Pattern gives written instructions; it contains both written and charted instructions for mosaic section.

GAUGE after blocking: 23 stitches x 36 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm/ 4 x 4” in garter stitch.

FINISHED SIZE (after blocking) 190 cm x 56 cm/74.75 x 22” (at the largest point)

MATERIALS:
Sock/Fingering weight yarn in the following quantity: 400 m/440 yds for each color
(Yarn used for the sample: Malabrigo Sock, colorway: Ivy and Eggplant)
3,25 mm / US 3 circular needle or size to obtain gauge and one size larger if needed for mosaic
tapestry needle
