Rona Shawl
These doily patterns are reproduced from Anna Marie Jensen’s publications with permission of her estate. Ava created a second version of the Rona pattern as a shawl, using a different finishing technique.
Exact gauge is not critical. Work the first 10-12 rounds of the pattern and decide if you like the look and feel of your fabric. If so, continue on. If not, change needle sizes or start over with larger or smaller needles.
- The navy blue version is knitted in Alpaca wool.
- The gold metallic version is knitted with a metallic thread.
KNITALONG INFO
A new KAL version will be made with in Yarn Fairy and the Pixies 100% merino and the single pattern includes charts! (Kits are available.)
Are you ready for a fun and challenging KAL? This shawl was originally designed as a doily by Anna Marie Jensen in 1953. Ava Coleman, co-author of Stories In Stitches, has adapted it to a shawl that can be knit in wool, cashmere, or metallic thread. The original pattern was written out in text only, and we’ve added charts to the single pattern to help you work the lace patterns.
What You’ll Learn
Circular CO, starting with DPNs or circulars, using lifelines, fixing mistakes in lace knitting, yarn overs for English and Continental knitters, how to read your knitting, how to interpret chart symbols, understanding vintage patterns, how to work unusual lace stitches, crochet bind off.

There are several colorways designed especially for this project. Kit options include fun extras like jewelry, stitch markers, and beads. Yarn packs for the hand-dyed wool version from Yarn Fairy and the Pixies are available here.
