John Roebling was the architect of one of New York City’s icons, the Brooklyn Bridge. When he became sick, he left the project to his son, Washington. Sadly, Washington also became ill and his wife, Emily Roebling, oversaw the construction of the bridge which opened on May 24, 1883. She was the first to cross the bridge. How cool that a woman oversaw this major project in the 1800s!! Roebling was inspired by the crossing wires on the bridge but the art deco mosaic pattern is reminiscent of many New York City landmarks.

Roebling is knit top down starting with easy stockinette and garter stripes. Then it moves into the mesmerizing mosaic pattern that will keep you wanting to knit one more row. It has a winged-triangle shape that makes it easier to wear than a traditional triangular shawl and is remarkably light and airy despite the density that mosaic can create. If you have never tried mosaic knitting, this is the perfect introduction! The design is addictive and intuitive.

The pattern contains both written and charted instructions.

Yarn
2 skeins of fingering weight yarn, 1 skein each in contrasting colors.
Sample used:
Sock by Backyard Fiberworks (100% super wash merino, 400 yards (366 m)/100g)
Color A - Silver Spring (light grey) 400 yards (366 m)
Color B - Stormcloud (black) 310 yards (283 m)
The sample used all of Color A. If you knit very loose, you may need more yardage.

Needles
US 4 (3.5 mm) and US 5 (3.75 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge, 32” (80 cm) or longer circular needles.
While gauge is not critical, it will affect yardage used.

Skills Required
Cast on, knit, purl, slipping stitches with yarn in front and back, M1R, M1L, M1RP, M1LP, I-cord bind off (instructions provided in pattern)
