This cute owl is made using Amigurumi crochet techniques. The pattern is written using Aran weight yarn to produce an owl that is about 7” / 18cm tall but you could use any yarn weight with corresponding hook size to make a larger or smaller owl.

The 6 page pattern is written in abbreviated crochet terminology and also features photo tutorials for some of the specific techniques needed to make the owl.

The body is made in one piece and the eyes, wings and head detail are separate pieces which are sewn on afterwards. The feet are embroidered on.

The owl is filled with lentils/pulses in the base to add weight and stability and then topped up with toy filler such as kapok.

The finished item was originally designed as a doorstop but could just as easily be a toy or cute paperweight if made in a finer gauge yarn.

Yarn & Materials

• 200g/300 yards of Aran/Chunky yarn in 4 different colours (50g/75 yards per colour).
• Approx 70g of Kapok or other type of stuffing.
• 300g Lentils/pulses or other suitable filling that won’t come through the holes of the fabric.
• 4.5mm / US7 hook.
• Locking stitch marker or safety pin.
• Wool/tapestry needle.
• Scrap yarn for tacking.
• Dressmakers pins
