This pattern was designed for a past River Knits anniversary and has been a popular multi-gauge sock pattern in our yarn shop ever since. The rippling ribbing of the leg is an homage to the Wabash River that runs through our town and where the yarn shop gets its name.

The pattern was designed to use any weight of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock, Shepherd Sport, or Shepherd Worsted.

One skein of Shepherd Sock or the newer Solemate will be enough for the sock weight version.

If you use Shepherd Sport or the newer Sportmate you will probably need two skeins but you won’t use much of the second skein. If you have a complementary color to use for heels (and maybe toes) one skein would easily be enough.

For the worsted weight version one skein of Shepherd Worsted is usually just right (about 225 yards).

The gauge for each weight is roughly as follows:
Sock weight: 9 stitches per inch
Sport weight: 7 stitches per inch
Worsted weight: 5 stitches per inch

Just be sure you are getting a nice firm fabric that will make good socks.
