This pattern is “guy approved”: hubby happened to see it and he liked it a lot!
I started with an 1841 cable pattern in The Lady’s Assistant for….Knitting, Netting, and Crochet Work (also known as The Lady’s Work Book) by Mrs. (Jane) Gaugain. I worked the cables as “knit 1, purl 1” to make them reversible. This strip would make a good afghan strip or scarf. I like the gentle scallops on the ends but, for a more tailored look, work several rows of garter stitch on each end to straighten them. Be sure to put a marker on the “right” side of this pattern because the sides are identical!
The 44-stitch swatch is 4.75 inches wide at gauge.

Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, k2tog and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

32 yards of Lion Brand’s OH BABY organic yarn will make 10” of a 44-stitch-wide strip at gauge.
