Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam is the Emperor’s truthsayer and mother of Lady Jessica. Like Gaius Mohiam, who has obtained “other memory” or the knowledge and abilities passed on through others. These socks require many different acquired skills. This pattern is written for the intermediate or advanced knitter as there are many charts and a lot of different tasks encountered; provisional cast on, modular construction, backwards cast on, beading, lace, slipped stitch, textured patterns, garter short row heel and garter toe, as well as the Kitchener stitch. If you don’t want to do the beading, there is an option to work the lace chart from the back over the front as well. This pattern was mostly based on the depiction of Reverend Mothers from the DUNE movies (1984 and the most recent adaptations). Reverend mothers live a life outside of the sisterhood while furthering the Bene Gesserit goals. To show this, these socks have 2 distinctly different feminine patterns, the lace and beads pattern on the leg where the lace is meant to resemble the bloodlines they manipulate (and they were wearing openwork lace in both films). The floral garter stitch pattern on the foot mimics the black floral brocade Gaius wears to test Paul with the Gom Jabbar in the 2021 film- She wears the black of the sisterhood, but adds her own touch to her clothing. The sideways knit cuff was inspired by their square hats; it adds a clunky ruffle feel. The slipped stitch section resembles the dresses in the 1984 film.
