This stash-busting scarf can be knit entirely with yarn from
your stash. Get ready to dig deep and make a big dent in that
yarn stash, opening space for future possibilities!

Skills

  • Long-tail cast-on
  • Holding yarns together
  • Knitting flat
  • 1 x 1 rib stitch
  • Binding Off

Gauge
11 sts x 16 rows = 4” (~10 cm) in 1x1 rib, knit flat, after blocking

Needles
16” or longer circular needle (or straight needles if preferred) in size
US 8 (5.0 mm), or size needed for gauge

Notions
Tapestry needle, for weaving in ends

Yarn

  • Fiber Content: Anything you have! Just make sure it’s soft enough for wearing around your neck
  • Yardage = varies depending on yarn weights and how large or small you choose to make your scarf. Aim for at least three 100-g skeins of heavy worsted-weight equivalent yarn.
  • Total Yarn Weight = Heavy Worsted/Aran, or multi-strand equivalent. Examples: 1 Worsted + 1 DK 3 DKs 2 DKs + 2 Fingerings 1 Worsted + 2 Fingerings

Tip: Adding a fine yarn, such as a laceweight mohair, to any of these combinations will not significantly affect the total yarn weight, making it an easy addition.

Finished Measurements
Note: Measurements below are as pictured, but you can make this
scarf as wide or as long as you like! I knit a very long scarf so that it
could be wrapped several times.

  • 10½” (26.5 cm) width
  • 10’ (3 m) length Tips:
  • To adjust the width of your scarf, simply add or subtract cast-on stitches.
  • To adust the lenth of your scarf, simply knit more or fewer rows.

Construction Notes

  1. Scarf is knit from end to end in 1x1 rib.
  2. A 2-stitch i-cord-style edging is worked on both sides.
  3. Scarf can be knit as wide or long as the knitter prefers, then sts are bound off in pattern.
