This is my take on a Christmas jumper – one that lasts beyond just one Christmas! In fact, you can wear it any time of year.
I love this simple little reindeer design. I originally created it for a pair of Christmas socks, a hat and some mittens. But I loved him so much, I made him bigger and popped him on the front of a jumper… with one small festive touch – a shiny red nose!

CONSTRUCTION
The back, front and two sleeves are knitted flat from the bottom up in seperate pieces and joined together. The sleeves are set in. The neck edge is picked up and knitted.

TECHNIQUES USED
Cast on, knit, purl, slip stitch (mosaic) and intarsia colourwork, decreasing, increasing, cast off. Joining seams. Optional but recommended to create the feeling of joy when joining your pieces: mattress stitch and three needle cast off.

YARN
8(9:9:10:10) 50g balls of aran weight yarn in shade A.
1(2:2:2:2) 50g ball(s) of aran weight yarn in shade B.
2(2:3:3:3) 50g balls of aran weight yarn in shade C.

Metres for shade A: 600(675:675:750:750)m.
Metres for shade B: 75(150:150:150:150)m.
Metres for shade C: 150(150:225:225:225)m.

SUGGESTED KNITTING NEEDLES
4.5mm and 5mm.

GAUGE (tension)
18 stitches and 24 rows to 10cm/4ins square over stocking stitch. I obtained this gauge with 5mm needles.
It is important to obtain the correct gauge so do work a swatch before you start the pattern and change your needle size to achieve the correct gauge if you need to.
