Designed for our deSTITCHnation monthly yarn club, this hooded cowl is inspired by Little Red Riding Hood’s cloak. The lace pattern is reminiscent of pine cones she might have seen on her path to Grandma’s house. The cowl is knit from the bottom up in an easy-to-memorize lace pattern, then split for the hood and worked flat. Alternately you could continue working the lace for the entire cowl, finishing with 5 ridges of garter stitch.

Yarn: Wonderland Yarns “Mary Ann” fingering, 85% superwash merino/ 15% nylon: 475 yds/4 oz, 1 skein: Shown in limited edition colorway “The Path to Grandma’s House”

Needles & Notions: US 5/3.75mm, 20”/50cm circular knitting needles, plus spare needle for Kitchener or Three Needle Bind-off, darning needle, stitch marker

Gauge: 23 sts/28 rows = 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch (double-check gauge as the entire skein is needed to complete the hood and you may run out of yarn if your gauge is different than specified)

Measurements: approximately 19”/48cm tall, 32”/81cm around at cast-on edge, hood opening measures 12”/30.5cm
