Red Rock Canyon Pullover
The folks at Brooks Farm asked me to design a sweater for this yarn. The colors reminded me of a sunset at Red Rock Canyon - hence the name. The combination of wool and silk in the yarn make it comfortable for fall through early spring.
The stitch pattern is designed to break up pooling in hand dyed yarns and to really show off the colors. It is constructed flat to the armhole so that the colors won’t make “barber pole” stripes.
The hem, cuffs and yoke are worked in the round using a slip stitch pattern with a contrast yarn, and the stitch pattern makes a slight flare at the hem and cuffs.
Speaking of the trim - this is a great sweater for that one or two skeins of hand spun or hand dyed yarn that are waiting in your stash to become something special. Use the hand dyed or hand spun as the contrast, and pair it with a solid for the body. The result is a dramatic faux fair-isle that really highlights the special yarn. The sample yarn is a standard worsted weight, so the possibilities are nearly endless.
Shown here in size small on mother and daughter, the design is suitable for many ages and body types, and can be easily lengthened. Written for sizes XS to 3X the pattern contains both written and charted instructions.
Skill Level - INTERMEDIATE - uses 2 different slipped stitch patterns, k2tog, ssk, and join into round. Includes both charted and written instructions for the stitch patterns.
